The Syllabus

Why is a Syllabus necessary?

A syllabus is necessary so that the time of a student’s life is spent in learning Deen in a systematic order. This ensures the level of progression in the intellectual and spiritual development of the student. In this method, he/she may be able to learn the essentials of Islam, their duties and obligations towards their Creator and their Communtiy , all in accordance to their level of understanding. By means of this, practicing Deen will become easy in his/her life.

What are the subjects in the Syllabus?

The Syllabus is divided into two sections:

1. Qur’ān

a) Qā’idah Part One: Recognition of Letters

b) Qā’idah Part Two: Recognition of Words

c) Al-Qā’idah Munawwarah: Introduction to Tajweed

d) Musḥaf (Qur’ān): Reading & Memorization

e) Tas-heel at-Tajweed: Rules of Articulation

2. Tas-heel Series for Islamic Studies:

Which consists of 6 subject areas with individual books for each subject:

a) Fiqh: Islamic Jurisprudence

b) ‘Aqāid: Islamic Doctrines and Beliefs

c) Akhlāq and Ādāb: Islamic Morals and Etiquettes

d) Tārīkh: Islamic History

e) Ḥadīth: Prophetic Narrations and Instructions

f) Du’ā: Prayers and Supplications

The Tas-heel Series is an English syllabus from Grades 1-12 that consists of 7 essential Islamic Subjects. It was designed by the ‘Ulamā (i.e. Islamic Theologians) of South Africa, specifically to cater towards public school going children.
